Types of grants

PTANT provides three types of grants to financial members;

  • Professional Learning grant to member associations seeking assistance in upskilling NT teachers in areas relevant to their association.
  • Governance grant to member associations to assist associations maintain compliance with the Associations Act 2003 (NT) (the Act) and regulations.
  • National/International Conference grant to member associations seeking assistance to hold a national/international conference in conjunction with their national representative body where the conference is held in the Northern Territory (NT).

Eligibility

All member associations are eligible to apply for grants providing the association is a financial member and previous grants have been acquitted. 

IMPORTANT

Grant assessments are ranked against other applications based on purpose and compliance with the Northern Territory Associations Act and/or Constitution.

Governance Grant

The Professional Teachers’ Association of the Northern Territory (PTANT) provides the Governance grant to member associations to assist associations maintain compliance with the Associations Act 2003 (NT) (the Act) and regulations.

Grants of up to $1500 are available once per calendar year and will be assessed on merit demonstrated in the application process.

Professional Learning Grant

PTANT provides the Professional Learning grant to member associations seeking assistance in upskilling NT teachers in areas relevant to their association.

 

The Professional Learning grant is available twice per calendar year for up to $10 000 per grant.

Applications will be assessed on merit demonstrated in the application process.

National/International Conference Grant

PTANT provides the National/International Conference grant to member associations seeking assistance to hold a national/international conference in conjunction with their national representative body where the conference is held in the Northern Territory (NT).

Grants of up to $15 000 are available once every two years and will be assessed on merit demonstrated in the application process.

Purpose

 

The purpose of the Governance grant is to assist associations in managing compliance obligations under the Act and regulations. Funding can be spent on gaining outside assistance as well as up-skilling members.

For example, a member association may apply for funding to:

 

  • engage an auditor
  • hold an annual general meeting
  • undertake governance training
  • assist with constitution changes
  • undertake a bookkeeper’s course
  • purchase of accounting software, ie. MYOB
  • provide ERT to support the executive to undertake governance duties
  • The proposed activity must align with requirements imposed under the Act.

Purpose

 

The grant will enable teachers across the NT to build skills, knowledge and pedagogical practices in a range of disciplines. This in turn provides NT teachers with evidence based programs, practices and teaching styles to improve student outcomes.

For example, a member association may apply for funding to:

 

  • bring a discipline specific presenter to the NT and deliver sessions for teachers
  • pay for members to attend professional learning where the members commit to providing professional support to NT teachers
  • coordinate a Territory conference
  • fund remote teacher travel to attend professional learning activities

Purpose

 

The purpose of the National/International Conference grant is to enable associations to co-convene/co-host a national conference in the NT to enable territory teacher to access high quality professional learning and showcase educational excellence in the NT.

For example, a member association may apply for funding to:

 

  • hire a venue
  • engage guest speakers
  • secure accommodation
  • cover associated expenses such as catering and administrative materials

Application criteria

 

The application requires associations to:

 

  • outline the use of the grant
  • identify the grant activity alignment with the Act and/or the associations constitution
  • include a proposed budget
  • Include an invoice/tax invoice addressed to

Application criteria

 

The application requires associations to:

 

  • identify the grant activity alignment with the Australian Curriculum and/or identify the grant activity alignment with the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and/or the Australian Professional Standards for Principals and
  • identify the number of NT teachers directly benefiting from the activity, this will include identifying the number of NT remote teachers involved (clearly indicate how this knowledge will be disseminated)
  • include a proposed budget with a clear breakdown of the following expenses (where applicable):
    • Catering expenses
    • Airfares
    • Speaker fees

Application criteria

 

The application requires associations to:

 

  • identify the grant activity alignment with the Australian Curriculum and/or Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and/or the Australian Professional Standards for Principals
  • identify the potential number of NT teachers directly benefiting from the activity, this will include identifying the number of NT remote teachers involved
  • include a proposed
